One in a Million 5K Run/Walk: In-person and Virtual

Register today to join us for the 3rd Annual One in a Million 5k Run/Walk to show your support for the appendix cancer community. Local resident Sheri Doss, our race director, is the inspiration for this event. Having fought her own battle with this rare disease, she created this 5k event to focus on health, community, and resilience.

The in-person walk/run will be held September 19, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas at Lady Bird Johnson Park. Register for the "in-person" event for a fun and inspiring morning at the park. If you can't join us there, you can still participate "virtually." When you register for the "virtual" race, you can plan your own walk or run to show your support. This can be as simple as a one-person walk/run in your race T-shirt, or an event for your whole family, your friends, or a workplace team, planned at a location and date of your choice. This is a great way for Pals around the country to get involved and raise money for PMP Pals programs and resources.

Can't make it to San Antonio? Try out our VIRTUAL OPTION! When you register for the "virtual" race, you can plan your own walk or run to show your support.  This can be as simple as a one-person walk/run in your race T-shirt, or an event for your whole family, your friends, or a workplace team, planned at a location and date of your choice.

Funds raised through the One in a Million 5K help PMP Pals provide hope and connection to appendix cancer patients and caregivers around the world through free support programs, education, mentoring, advocacy, and community events. Donations supporting Pals' programs are welcomed and can be made through the race registration link.

And, business sponsorships are so important to the success of this event. Please use the Sponsorship Information link below to find the sponsorship tier that is right for you and to sign up today.

Why a 5K Run/Walk?

San Antonian Sheri Doss is grateful to be alive. Wanting to give back to both her local and peer support cancer communities, Sheri created the One in a Million 5K Run/Walk to celebrate her 60th birthday in 2024. In addition to raising funds for your favorite charity, PMP Pals, she wanted to raise awareness of Appendix Cancer (AC) and a related rare condition, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP). Sheri was diagnosed in 2021 with AC/PMP, which affects a small number but a large cross-section of the world - people of all ages, shapes, genders, and nationalities. After undergoing an intense life-saving surgery, her health returned due, in large part, to her daily walking routine.  Inspired by the role that healthy habits played in her recovery, Sheri intends for this community event to promote healthy habits for all ages and levels of fitness. Sheri thrives because of her positive attitude, love for walking, and the online support she found through PMP Pals. This run/walk is her way of giving back to her Pals and her local community.
