Why a 5K Run/Walk?

San Antonian Sheri Doss is grateful to be alive. Wanting to give back to both her local and peer support cancer communities, Sheri created the One in a Million 5K Run/Walk to celebrate her 60th birthday in 2024. In addition to raising funds for your favorite charity, PMP Pals, she wanted to raise awareness of Appendix Cancer (AC) and a related rare condition, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP). Sheri was diagnosed in 2021 with AC/PMP, which affects a small number but a large cross-section of the world – people of all ages, shapes, genders, and nationalities. After undergoing an intense life-saving surgery, her health returned due, in large part, to her daily walking routine.  Inspired by the role that healthy habits played in her recovery, Sheri intends for this community event to promote healthy habits for all ages and levels of fitness. Sheri thrives because of her positive attitude, love for walking, and the online support she found through PMP Pals. This run/walk is her way of giving back to her Pals and her local community.
